Actually, the card does not have to be about business at all if you have no business. Just have a calling card made that identifies you, that allows people to reach you at a later date if they’re so inclined. This practice is common in other parts of the world. You’ll meet someone, introduce yourselves, and then the person will give you a card with his name and phone number on it. That’s it, just the name and phone number.

This is an opportunity to tell the world who you are by how you represent yourself graphically. It’s not the same thing as a business card. That card is the image of the business, not you. Even if you are the owner of your company, you still have to be conscious of the identity your company is putting out to the marketplace.

Not so with a personal card. You can be anybody. What’s even better, you can be you. If you have the means, work with a graphic artist whose talent you respect. You can design the card yourself, or have a printer help you out. You can say anything you want on the card. You are giving yourself the opportunity to tell the world just who you are.
