King Mackerel Fish

There has been a problem in recent years with fish containing high levels of mercury. This can harm your baby during pregnancy. Luckily not all fish is dangerous, but you want to avoid these fish:
•    Shark
•    Golden/white snapper (tilefish)
•    King mackerel
•    Swordfish
Fish can be a great source of protein and calcium. The best guidelines are to eat no more than two servings (twelve ounces) of fish a week, only six ounces of which should be canned tuna. Nutritious and safe fish during pregnancy include the following:
•    Light tuna
•    Catfish
•    Pollock
•    Shrimp
•    Salmon
In addition to foods that you should avoid in pregnancy, there are some common-sense things to know about food preparation. When you are cooking, wash your hands before beginning and after handling any potentially hazardous foods. You should also wash your counters and cutting boards after any contact with raw or undercooked meat. This helps prevent cross-contamination from the raw meat, one of the biggest causes of illness related to food.
