Diet and Acne

acne and dietIt’s important to check with your doctor or dermatologist if you have persistent acne outbreaks, but perhaps you should check your diet first. Despite many doctors’ claims that acne has nothing to do with diet, lots of people have observed that eating certain foods aggravates their acne. Chocolate, nuts, coffee, fried foods and cola drinks are commonly implicated foods.

As far as nutrition goes, it’s my overwhelming impression that the best course of action is to adopt a sensible, well-balanced diet in which junk foods and rich desserts like ice cream are eliminated. Gustave Hoehn, M.D., a dermatologist from San Gabriel, California, and author of Acne Can Be Cured (Arco, 1977), believes that a diet low in animal fat and butterfat is the key to curing acne. In his book, Dr. Hoehn suggests that any random survey of high school students will show that severe acne sufferers are heavy users of cheese, butter, hamburger and whole milk. “The pimples will disappear when you put people on skim milk and eliminate hard fats,” says Dr. Hoehn. “It is only the thick, hard, solid fats that cause a stasis or the inability of the sebum to flow out freely.”

The problem pf acne not only depends on the skin type but also on the eating habits. So to avoid this problem one has to concentrate on the food items which they mostly take if it is not solved even then they have to follow the doctor.
