This posting is dedicated to the Earth’s Soul, which had been injured since a long time ago by the creatures that claimed their selves are already civilized, but who knows the truth… The civilized creatures reside on earth are the creatures that destroying the earth at once. Illegal logging, pollution, mining, building, industrialization, all activities are for the sake of civilization. Are they really civilized? Environment was a word that appeared more often in spelling bees than on the evening news.

A few people that still have conscience, organized a movement against the condition. April 22, 1970 was the first time people in the US conscious about their destiny on earth. Supported by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson, they proclaimed the Earth Day.

The Earth Day went global in 1990, embracing 141 countries and lifting the status of environmental issues on to the world stage. By the time April 22, 2000 rolled around, the member reached in numbers of 184 countries. The Earth Day 2000 conference loudly declared that citizens the world round wanted quick and decisive action on clean energy. Now, the fight for a clean environment continues.

But I think Earth Day is not familiar enough among Indonesian citizen. The consciousness about environment just grows in several academic communities, i.e. university. In Bandung, the Earth Day celebration brought by KMPA (Keluarga Mahasiswa Pecinta Alam) ITB in cooperation with some NGOs and Jaringan Hari Bumi (Earth Day Network) Community.

They presented many programs such as evening live music, global warming film, eco-education-tour (outbound), photography & poster exhibition, product exhibition, workshop & discussion, planting trees, and Earth Day carnival.
