If you want to be a traditionalist, use a ceramic, metal, or plastic pig, but any type of container will do.
It also doesn’t matter whether you save pennies or all kinds of change. What’s important is that you place the change in your piggy bank either at the beginning or the end of each day. Don’t spend the money: Once it goes in it doesn’t come out until you can’t put any more in.
Starting a piggy bank provides concrete evidence of your ability to save, and to follow through and accomplish something long-term. If your piggy bank is an open tray or dish,you can observe the fruit of your determination. If you have a real piggy bank, pick it up from time to time and feel its weight.
When your piggy bank is full, put the change in wrappers, take the rolls to the bank, get bills, and buy something you’ll really enjoy. You’ll be amazed at how much extra money you have saved, and how satisfied you feel. Then start over tomorrow.
